Fifty Years of Safer Abatement: Enviro-Vac’s Evolution Since 1976
Hazardous-materials abatement has changed dramatically over the past five decades. Regulations have strengthened, technology has advanced, and expectations for worker and environmental protection have risen. Paragon Remediation Group Ltd. DBA Enviro-Vac™ has evolved alongside the industry. while keeping safety at the centre of every project.
FROM VACUUM TRUCKS TO ADVANCED negative pressure CONTAINMENTs
Enviro-Vac began in British Columbia in 1976 with a fleet of industrial vacuum trucks. These vacuum trucks removed hazardous dust and residue from pulp mills and industrial plants across the province. As hazardous-material regulations became more rigorously enforced in the late 1970s, the company adopted diesel powered, trailer-mounted HEPA vacuum loaders and automated bagging systems. Operating under high vacuum pressure, Enviro-Vac units use a continuous negative pressure design with a strictly sealed "closed-circuit" loop, safely containing hazardous dust like asbestos and heavy metals dust through multi-stage HEPA filtration and direct-discharge with continuous bagging. The enclosed system collects material into disposal containers or super sacks while processing exhaust air through multi-stage filtration, including final-stage HEPA filtration.
This transition from vacuum truck to HEPA trailer vacuum loader marked an important step forward: combining greater efficiency with stronger containment and exposure controls. Unlike vacuum trucks, Enviro-Vac loaders can run continuously not needing to leave the work site to dump collected material. Because the industrial vacuum loader is designed to run without stopping, it can stay at a particular job site for long periods.
EXPERIENCE MEASURED IN PROJECTS
Since 1976, Enviro-Vac has completed thousands of turnkey abatement and decontamination projects across Canada and South America. Its teams now perform approximately 1,200 projects annually, often in complex industrial environments and under demanding operating conditions.
Recent work has included simultaneously supporting five pulp and paper mill abatement projects between 2023 and 2025. The company’s leadership team also brings more than 100 years of combined industry experience to project planning and execution.
SAFETY REMAINS THE CONSTANT
While equipment and regulations continue to evolve, Enviro-Vac’s guiding principle has remained unchanged: “Safety is our strength.” Safety considerations begin with pre-job risk assessments and continue through containment, documentation and final project closeout. A proprietary cloud platform gives project teams access to current compliance documentation, while certified crews and mobile assets support rapid deployment to select projects throughout Canada, including remote and sub-Arctic locations.
Enviro-Vac’s capabilities include:
-
Asbestos removal and containment
-
Lead-paint, coatings abatement and heavy metal dust
-
Arsenic trioxide and PCB cleanup
-
Mercury and mould abatement
-
Negative-pressure shrink-wrap containment
-
Class II industrial vacuuming
The company also maintains 24/7 rapid-response capabilities, 365 days a year, for qualifying hazardous-material incidents and urgent decontamination needs.
BUILDING THE NEXT CHAPTER
Five decades of operation reflect more than longevity. They represent continuous investment in safer systems, trained personnel and practical solutions for challenging sites. As Enviro-Vac enters its next fifty years, its commitment remains the same: responsive service, compliant execution and safer outcomes for workers, clients and communities.
