Cold Weather - Hazardous Materials Enclosure or Containments

Airtight, negative pressure enclosures or containments that are smoke tested to confirm effectiveness are required during high-risk, hazardous materials abatement and containments that will keep cold winds out during the winter are critical in allowing exterior abatement work to be completed. Such enclosures can be heated and are pressure tested and monitored to verify the negative pressure variance between the interior of the enclosure and the surrounding space. There are many factors to consider when designing a negative pressure enclosure, factors that include; penetrations through ceilings, ducting etc., negative pressure volume/flow rates, airlock & decontamination room configurations, access/egress door openings. The shape and configuration of enclosure also impact the effectiveness of the enclosure.
The type of containment installed for asbestos and/or other hazardous materials abatement is dependent on many additional factors and constraints including the type of abatement or decontamination work being performed. It could be a straight-forward exclusion zone or engineered shrink-wrap containment or even a complex series of inter connected negative pressure containments.
